Thermal, CA – January 19, 2025 – Life as of late has been full of good days and bad days for Ashlin Goodwin, but Sunday, January 19, was certainly one of the good days as she rode MTM Emilia Air Heart to victory in the $5,000 NAL Prestige Italia 1.15m Junior Jumper Classic
Twenty-six entries took on the course designed by Cedric Longis for the Sunday afternoon classic, but no one would catch Goodwin and MTM Emilia Air Heart’s jump-off time of 33.885 seconds. Coming the closest was Ripley Ehrlich who finished in both second and third with times of 35.234 seconds and 35.960 seconds aboard Bien Vu and Hermes, respectively.
“[MTM Emilia Air Heart] is just always game to do the courses and jumps so that definitely helps us stay consistent,” said Goodwin, who trains with her mother, Natalie Goodwin. “Sometimes it’s not our day, but she’s been really good this week. She’s very supportive. Today, we had two choices: to either go all the way around or do the tight turns. I wasn’t feeling 100 percent today, but she was there through all the turns, so I’m very thankful for her.”
Ashlin Goodwin’s “not feeling 100 percent” stems from currently ongoing peanut allergy treatment, meant to ultimately help alleviate her severe peanut allergy.
“I’ve been having to do some sort of a shot once a month and then eat some peanut butter, and we just upped my dose, so that’s why I wasn’t feeling too great this week,” explained Ashlin Goodwin.
Natalie Goodwin further explained, “We just started it in the last month and a half because it just got FDA approved; she’s highly, highly allergic. We’re at a half a teaspoon of peanut butter a night, but it presents itself in the body as food poisoning because she’s so allergic. So, we’re trying to deal with having strength and mentally overcoming when we’re not feeling good – and some days when we’re really not feeling good being comfortable with tapping out. So that’s why today was super, super special. Every win is amazing, but today feels really good!”
